Les Arcs
High altitude resort

Resort description

Les Arcs is made up of 3 pairs of villages: Arc 1600/1800, Arc 1950/2000 and Peisey-Vallandry Nancroix, each offering a different flavour from functional to charming, but all providing superb ski-in ski-out facilities. Spoilt with both skiing and snowboarding options, the domain offering splendid view of the Mont Blanc massif and the Tarentaise Valley now stretches as far as La Plagne.

Arc 1800
A purpose-built car free resort enjoying perfect sun exposure from morning to evening. Arc 1800 is the most cosmopolitan of the villages, well catered for in terms of restaurants, lively bars and shops.

Arc 2000
Set at the foot of Aiguille Rouge, giving direct access to the highest, toughest skiing. The lack of charm of original architecture is now counterbalanced by a more cosy extension made up of wood and stone chalets hiding apart the main stream. Arc 2000 is now linked with a gondola until 9pm to the neighbouring Arc 1950 resort (see our resort list)

Les Arcs

Arc 1800 is the largest village of the Arcs and has a west-facing mountainside.

Arc 1800 is made up of 4 sub-villages: Charmettoger,  Le Charvet, Villards and Le Chantel

Le Charvet is where the majority of the shops, bars and restaurants are located

Arc 2000 is situated in a bowl at the foot of Aiguille Rouge and gives direct access to some of the best skiing in the area

Les Arcs has been awarded the P'tits Montagnards label which guarantees high quaility facilities for children and there parents on holiday in the mountians

There is a free shuttle bus between Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950 and Arc 2000 the bus runs until 7.30pm

Skiing in Paradiski

The 3 resorts of Les Arcs, La Plagne and Peisey-Vallandry make up the Paradiski area

This means a huge variety of pistes, so it’s a place for everyone no matter their level, their style or experience

The resorts are linked by the Vanoise express which is the worlds largest cable car

One chair lift and a blue run is all it takes to get to the cable car from Les Arc 1800

From Arc 2000 it’s a little ski down then a chairlift ride to the ridge and then a blue run down to the cable car

Skiing in Les Arcs

The domain is to be awarded for its genuine varied spots/compact zone ratio. This mean you can make the best of your day out cruising on your skis rather than cruising on a chair lifts!

The best snow is to be found at Grand Col (2800m), which offers equally attractive runs for the intermediates and experts

Les Arcs has over 30km of black runs for experts

The olympic speed skiing track can be tested by strong-hearted members of the public, starting at various heights according to experience

From Arc 1800 you can head down in to the bowl of Arc 2000

In the Les Arcs ski area most routes have an easy and more difficult alternative making it good for mixed abilities.

Snowboarding in Les Arcs

There is a terrain park just below Arpette and you can buy a pass to the park from Arc 1800

There are 2 areas in the park, the game zone with runs and jumps and an area for novices, there is also the more advanced display zone which has big jumps and rails

There is also a half pipe in Arc 2000, which is floodlit at night

In the Paradiski area there is 4 snow parks, 1 half pipe, 1 board gliss and 3 boarder crosses

Cross country skiing

Les Arcs has a 15km of trails

You can explore the 153km of marked trials in the Paradiski area

Ski School

There is a wide selection of ski schools to choose from in the Les Arcs area.

In Arc 1600, Arc 1800 & Arc 2000 the ESF offers a wide variety of lessons for both adults and children.

There are over 115 ski instructors in this area offering lessons in alpine skiing and snow boarding.

The Skiing
Les Arcs is now linked up with neighbouring La Plagne by the new cable car - the Vanoise Express - to form the new Paradiski ski area, a ski area of mammoth proportions. Paradiski is made up of 20 different holiday destinations and with 425km of pistes and 2-equipped glaciers there is something to suit skiers and boarders of all ages and abilities. Paradiski has excellent facilities and with its huge variation in altitude (1200m-3250m) there is a multitude of different types of scenery and piste to explore. Les Arcs offers experts some tough decents beneath the Aiguille Rouge. For intermediates the greatest concentration of blues and reds are above Arc 1800 which lead down to the villages of Peisey and Vallandry. There are nursey slopes close to all of the Les Arcs vilages, but some of the best green runs can be found in La Plagne.
Après Ski
Arc 1800 is the liveliest centre with a reasonable choice of places to eat out, bars and discotheque. Après-ski is more limited in Arc 2000 but nevertheless chic. Peisey Vallandry is recommended to those looking for genuine Savoyard friendliness. In Arc 1800 the restaurants included the gourmet restaurant Chalet de Milou. There are also the Casa Mia and Onglet restaurants which offer a wide variety of meals. L'Hedoniste wine bar can also be found in Arc 1800. In Arc 2000 there is the Chez Eux restaurant which offers savoyard meals. There is also Latino Lococafé and Pierre Chaud restaurants. In Peisey-Vallandry L'Ormeline restaurant offers Savoyard dishes and traditional cuisine can be found at La Caleche restaurant.
Amenities
Each village is independent and provides the right selection of shops and services, such as banks, grocery shops, butchers, bakeries, post offices, laundrettes, doctor's and pharmacies. There is also a range of sport shops, clothes shops, beauticians and hairdressers.
Activities
To choose from the 3 centres you can go dog sledging, ski biking, ice skating, hang gliding, paragliding, snow scooting, frozen waterfall climbing, sleigh rides (Arc 1600,) play squash (Arc 1800), visit the ice-grotto (in Arc 2000) and go to the cinema.
