Resort description

Vars is a traditional French resort which benefits from high altitude and enjoys almost 300 days of sunshine a year. It forms part of Domaine de la Foret Blanche, which is one of the largest ski area in the Southern Alps.

The resort runs along the length of the valley and is split between 4 hamlets: Saint Marcelin, Sainte Catherine, Les Claux and Saint Marie.

Sainte Marie is the largest of the hamlets and the starting place for skiing with the 5 seater chair lift departing from the edge of the village and connecting it to the resort of Risoul at 1850. It opens up to over 180km of piste and a large choice of ski possibilities.


The Skiing
Vars has good skiing particularly for intemediate and beginner skiiers. The whole area is accessible via green and blue runs, you can even ski between Risoul and Vars on just blue pistes. Those Expert skiers also have a choice of 10 black runs and plenty of off-piste. The resort offers some good boarding and ther is a snow board park.
Après Ski
The Apres ski in Vars is fairly lively. There are a number of popular bars and restaurants such as La Marmotte, Le Tribeca, Le Chaudron, La Tavola Calda, fine cuisine at Chez Plumot, and Le Lem nightclub...

Vars offers all the amenities you may need including shops, a games hall, cashpoint, relaxation and fitness centre, cinema, restaurants and nightclubs. It is also only 25miles South of the historic town of Briancon with its medieval fortress and makes a great day out...

There are plenty of activities to try in Vars such as Skidoo rides, snowshoeing, helicopter rides, cinema or outdoor ice-skating and the Snakegliss!

Driving distance: From Calais: 645 miles, approximately 10 hrs 15 mins.
Airport access: Marseille: 145 miles, approximately 2 hrs 45 mins. Grenoble: 155 miles, approximately 3 hrs 15 mins.
