Tignes
High altitude resort

Resort description

Tignes is a purposed-built resort which ranks as one of the best winter sports centres in the world. The original and main village Le-Lac is still the hub of the resort and has been recently remodelled and improved in its appearance. Val-Claret is situated 2km further up, at the foot of the funicular transportation to the glacier. The lesser known Les-Brévières is in fact a friendly place to stay in a renovated old village at the lowest point of the slopes (1550m).

Tignes

Tignes is set at the foot of the twin peaks of the Grande Motte and the Grande Casse, except for the old village of Les Brevieres

The resort has a highly sporty reputation and hosts many celebrities on training courses, including the French national football team.

No one though should feel distracted from entering the playground. Tignes is welcoming and comfortable to families too.

A regular and very efficient free bus connects all the villages of Tignes until midnight.

Val d’Isère can be reached from Tignes by ski lift or bus.

Skiing in Tignes

With  snow reliability hard to beat, it is usually possible to ski 1,400m vertical from November until the lifts close in May

A must for expert and for adventurous intermediates Tignes offers challenging runs. One is the long black run from Tovière to Tignes-le-Lac, and scenic Vallon de La Sache down to Les Brevières should not be missed.

For intermediates Tignes is one of the best resorts . It has a good choice of blue/red runs. The Grande Motte glacier is highly recommended to intermediates with a bit of confidence.

Great nursery slopes can be found at Tignes-le-Lac

From Val Claret you can get a chair lift to Col de Fresse from here you can access the slopes of Val d’Isere. The 2 resorts are jointly marketed as Espace Killy.

Espace Killy has some of the best lift served off piste in the world. It is imperative to have an expert guide, as it is very easy to get lost.
