Flaine
High altitude resort

Resort description

Flaine is an architecturally modern and car free resort located in the Haute-Savoie region, close to the Mont-Blanc. This resort is part of one of the largest skiing area in France "Grand Massif".

Flaine is in continuous renewal and expansion. This lively resort already attracts lots of ski enthusiasts and many more are expected to follow. Flaine's attraction is meant to increase thanks to Intrawest's brand new 4 star residence "Les Terrasses d'Eos" in Flaine Mont Soleil and many more high quality accommodations to come.

With one of the best snow records in the French Alps, Flaine is very often called "big snowy bowl". Therefore, you will enjoy a beautiful landscape while skiing or snowboarding.

Close to Geneva airport and with snow at the doorstep of most accommodation, Flaine is also described as a "Fly in, Ski out resort". Flaine is one of the most easily accessible resorts in the French Alps.

Skiing in Grand Massif

Grand Massif is very well known as a great area for both skiers and snowboarders. From beginners to those more adventurous, all will be amazed by the 265kms of linked and prepared runs. This skiing area connects Flaine with 4 other resorts; Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt Fer-a-Cheval.

     “The Cascades Piste”

Make sure you don’t miss “The Cascades piste”, a 14kms long run, dropping you down from Les “Grandes Platieres” into the Village of Sixt Fer a Cheval at 1800m. A beautiful landscape without encountering one single ski lift. Once in Sixt, a free shuttle bus takes you to the main cable car in Samoëns and from there you will be able to go back to Flaine.

“Keep an eye on the lift closing time”

However, during high-season, be aware that given the skiing area, you may face bottlenecks in the afternoon when everyone is heading for home. Therefore, schedule your heading back early or late but keep an eye on the lift closing time.

Snowboarding in Grand Massif

Snowboarders will enjoy “Grand Massif” thanks to the variety and good snow record of the skiing domain.

Throughout the “Grand Massif”, 3 terrains parks are at the disposal of all snowboarders.

-          Jampark Pro: This terrain is located in Flaine and is aimed at experts. It features rails, tables, quarter pipe, a boardercross course and plenty of kickers.

-          Jampark Cool: This terrain is designed for less accomplished acrobats and is located In Samoëns.

-          Jampark Kids: This terrain is located in Morillon and dedicated to children.

Cross country skiing in Flaine

Flaine Ski Nordic is situated at 1844m at “the Col de Pierre Carrée”. This cross-country skiing area is the highest and with the best snow cover in the Alps. You will be able to enjoy 17kms of marked tracks for skating and traditional cross-country skiing. The “Agy area”, about 30 minutes from Flaine offers 30km of additional tracks.

Pedestrians in Flaine

Even if you don’t ski or snowboard, you can still enjoy magnificent views of Mont Blanc. Indeed, the “Grandes Platieres” cable car will take you from 1600 to 2500m. Why not enjoy a lunch at the sun terrace of the altitude bar and restaurant, located at the top.

Ski School

The ESF in Flaine offers skiing and snowboarding lessons for adults and children.

You can either have group lessons or private lessons.

For young children, aged from 3 years old, there is the “Jardin d’enfants” where they will be entertained and have skiing lessons.
